What will you do with your last wild and precious weeks of Summer?
How is it possible four solid months have expired since I last wrote to you on March 27?
Secretly I had been longing for a pause, reset, or sabbatical -- a little time to simmer and refine exactly how I can best be of service (and inspiration) moving forward.
My 49th birthday is on Saturday (thank you) and I have big plans for the next 370 days before I turn FUCKING-50.
Yaaaassss!
Summer is far from over.
It's time to soak and squeeze every last beautiful drop of this season.
I invite your total presence to August.
What if you were to plan and initiate several simple picnics before Autumn returns on Thursday, September 22, 2022?
Mary Oliver's poem encourages a thoughtful field guide:
THE SUMMER DAY
Who made the world?/
Who made the swan, and the black bear?/
Who made the grasshopper?/
This grasshopper, I mean--/
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,/
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,/
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down--/
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes./
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face./
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away./
I don't know how to pay attention, how to fall down/
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,/
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,/
which is what I have been doing all day./
Tell me, what else should I have done?/
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?/
Tell me, what is it you plan to do/
with your one wild and precious life?/
Here's your assignment if you choose to accept:
Pay attention
Fall down into the grass
Be idle
Be blessed
Stroll everywhere (especially in fields, along trails, lake-side and next to the ocean)
Remember everything and everyone dies at last, and too soon.
What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life? (talk about this with friends, family and in community).
In the name of taking mindfulness viral, or micro...
