Creativity

Reading The Dazzling Darkness

When it came time for Mr. RockFord Orvin’s painting the creative challenge and invitation dazzled my palette.

My first mixed media on wood. Watercolor, pastel & colored pencil.

This project, I had started several years prior, as part of my spiritual healing. I didn’t know it would be for him. Or that I'd be returning favor to a best friend who continually blesses others with gifts of art. He's always making original pieces for other people.

I knew this was divine intervention.

I wondered if he had ever been gifted an original piece.

When he opened his present he gasped and covered his mouth with one hand. I could see it in his eyes. I felt it in our hearts. He'd been touched by the student.

Thanks for teaching me so much about painting RockFord!

Twin Salamanders

Twins are showing up lately. At Instagram I binge on Cheyenne Jackson's posts. His husband, their cute twin toddlers, and plenty of behind-the-scenes celebrity LGBT inspiration.

A new friend entered stage left of my life and we are like creative twin soul siblings.

We spend time with tea, words, giggles, and notes. At my piano bench we've found home base.

On one occasion we wrestled with words through timed practice. I merged the prose into a poem with wonder twin powers.

And to our amusement the word 'salamander' emerged separately from each of our scribbles.

Twin Salamanders

cylinder of pink tutus
by the sanctity of beet root
curls of irons crayoned on her face
forsaken grocery store Santa Claus

scream for no man's daughter
mongrel of penguins hoping between
fear the looking spectre of Madonna
poppers of meth

who came for the soothsayer's suitcase?
runways in heels and sharp swords of flesh
don't lie

even saunas get Erections in july
cumming Purple Pansies

May The Creative Force Be With You

Meryl Streep's speech at the Golden Globe Awards!!!

She ends with words Carrie Fisher shared with her:

"Take your broken heart. Make it into art."

Yes, I accept this invitation, and remind you of two important attitude adjustments for your creative endeavors.

Create before you consume.

Watch less and write more.
(Paint, sketch, compose, dance, build, plant, even date).

It's a perfect time, today, a week before Martin Luther King Day, to share one of my favorite quotes:

As my sufferings mounted I soon realized that there were two ways in which I could respond to my situation — either to react with bitterness or seek to transform the suffering into a creative force. I decided to follow the latter course.
