Driving north this morning I noticed a spectacular display of graffiti on the back side of the opposing freeway's signage. One could climb above the road, onto the platform of the sign, at either end. And since the back side of the sign wasn't facing oncoming traffic, it offered a discrete hiding place with a canvas of opportunity for spray paint.
I found it beautiful. Assuming there was effort and courage required to make this happen. Sneaky and deliberate creative planning. I envisioned the entire execution happening in the late hours of the night, or wee small hours of the morning. I dressed the artists in cozy, night time outfits with hoodies.
I couldn't help but question myself: "How willing are you to make your art? What are you willing to risk, and sacrifice, to bring it into the world?"
