Season Of Stillness: Make Sit Happen

Have you been saying to yourself: “I need to start meditating. It will be good for me.”

Meditation can be tricky to wrap your head around, and difficult to put into daily practice. Let me be your guide in this free mindfulness experience. For seven days we’ll explore the basics of sitting meditation practice. Through short videos I’ll offer suggestions ‘from the trail’, and provide several audio tracks for your daily practice.

🐞 What Is Mindfulness?

With a lens of mindfulness you tune into what you’re sensing in the present moment. Refrain from rehashing the past. When you imagine the future gently guide yourself back to this moment.

Think of mindfulness as a type of meditation in which you focus on being intensely aware of what you’re sensing and feeling in the moment—without interpretation or judgment.

Practicing mindfulness involves breathing methods, guided imagery, and other practices to relax the body and mind an help reduce stress.

Benefits Of Mindfulness

The benefits of mindfulness continue to rise. You can trust improvement in the following areas:

  • Mental health

  • Physical health

  • Relationships

  • Behavioural habits

  • Competency

  • Creativity

  • Stress relating to all sorts of circumstances can be reduced

Your Relationship To Pain & Difficulty

“With all the focus on quick gains to health and happiness, there may be something deeper to these practices that our positive-results focused science and culture is missing. If so, could it be spoken of, perhaps not in the language of data, but with the language of the heart? ‘Turning towards difficulty’ is at the very core of a mindfulness course, but with our habits of avoidance, it’s also perhaps the aspect that gets talked of the least, at least in mainstream media reports. How can courage (and airspace) be found for the uncertainties, the anxieties, the suffering, the losses that can come into awareness when we pay attention, as well as the material benefits that we get so excited about? Indeed, could it be that the receiving of these benefits actually depend on our willingness to turn towards unpalatable truths? By neglecting them, might we receive a lesser version of the wellbeing we crave, and miss out on a deeper sense of meaning and value—one that can’t easily be summarized in a newspaper headline, or a scientific study abstract?”

When I was diagnosed with HIV in 2003, and AIDS in 2008, I ultimately made a decision to spread more compassion, mindfulness, and creativity.

My decision didn’t happen all at once. There were many ups and downs along the way. Continually I felt touched to talk about my experience. Soon it became clear that shame, stigma, and addiction might kill me first.

A sexual connection got me into this situation, and a spiritual one would transform my relationship to life.

The primary medical objective to achieve undetectable levels of HIV in my body carried over into other aspects of my psyche. I was living a life undetectable—small, inappreciable, insensible, insignificant, shadowy, vague and invisible.

Over the past sixteen years of mindfulness practice, with continued effort, my capacity to meet pain and difficulty has changed. And with that, I’m ready to be visible, and detectable.

Peace, joy, and contentment have consistently increased in my life.

I’m noticing a trend for online entrepreneurs to discuss their growth and success. How they’ve grown their profits to six, seven, and eight figures. This is valid and important, however… I long to hear more about:

  • How are you growing your spiritual bank account?

  • How are you strengthening your relationship to pain and discomfort?

  • What about your spiritual salary with benefits of peace, compassion, joy, surrender, acceptance, forgiveness, and creativity?

The world’s starving for spirituality and kindness, and the space to start is within you. You wouldn’t have read this far if you didn’t hear the whisper of your spiritual impulse. What you focus on grows, and I’m willing to teach you what I’ve experienced.

Offer time and attention, two of your most valuable resources, towards your spiritual source, and you will experience increased spiritual revenue.

The unconscious instinct for consciousness and connection with Source can become conscious at any time, and reorient the direction of one’s entire life. The arising of this instinct into conscious awareness is what I call the spiritual impulse.
